When most people think of strawberries, they picture a short harvest season that comes and goes in a matter of weeks.
Seascape offers something different.
Developed by the University of California, Seascape is an everbearing variety known for producing fruit over an extended season rather than concentrating everything into a single harvest window. While North Florida’s climate differs greatly from California’s, the variety’s reputation for productivity, fruit quality, and extended harvest potential made it an attractive addition to the berry patch.
At Chesed Ranch, Seascape represents the goal of enjoying fresh strawberries for as much of the year as possible.

Why We Chose Seascape
When designing the strawberry beds, we wanted to compare two very different approaches to strawberry production.
Sweet Charlie was selected as a proven Florida favorite known for early harvests and exceptional flavor.
Seascape was selected because of its reputation for producing over a longer period of time.
Rather than focusing solely on maximum production during a short harvest window, Seascape offers the potential for a more continuous supply of fresh berries. For a family that enjoys eating strawberries fresh, that extended production period was particularly appealing.

Looking Forward
Strawberries hold a special place on the homestead because they are one of the few fruits that everyone reaches for immediately.
Rarely do strawberries make it all the way back to the house without a few disappearing along the way.
The Seascape bed was planted with a simple goal: provide fresh strawberries for as much of the season as possible while evaluating how an everbearing variety performs under North Florida conditions.
If successful, Seascape may become a permanent fixture in the berry patch for years to come.
