Filling the Gap
As the citrus section of the orchard began taking shape, we found ourselves with one remaining planting space and a question:
What was missing?
We already had oranges. We had grapefruit. We had lemons and limes. Each variety brought something unique to the orchard, but there seemed to be a gap between the sweetness of an orange and the bold character of a grapefruit.
The answer was the Minneola Tangelo.
A cross between a grapefruit and a mandarin orange, the Minneola offers the best characteristics of both parents. It is sweeter than a grapefruit, more complex than many oranges, and known for its rich flavor and juiciness.
It was exactly the bridge we were looking for.
Something Different
One of the goals of the orchard is to provide a wide variety of flavors rather than simply collecting different trees.
The Minneola Tangelo helps accomplish that goal.
Its fruit occupies a unique middle ground within the citrus family. The flavor is bright and distinctive, offering enough sweetness to satisfy orange lovers while retaining enough tang and complexity to appeal to grapefruit fans.
For visitors unfamiliar with tangelos, it is often the citrus fruit that surprises them the most.

Why We Chose Minneola
The Minneola Tangelo was selected because it fills a unique role within the orchard.
Rather than duplicating flavors we already had, the tangelo provides something different. Its flavor profile sits comfortably between an orange and a grapefruit, making it a versatile citrus that appeals to a wide range of tastes.
With only one planting location remaining when the citrus plan was finalized, we wanted a tree that expanded the orchard’s diversity rather than repeating what was already there.
The Minneola was the clear choice.
