Valencia Orange

I would make the Valencia page the citrus equivalent of the Flordaking page’s role in the peach section. Not because it’s the most exotic citrus, but because it’s the benchmark.

The Standard

When most people think of an orange tree, they are usually imagining something very similar to a Valencia.

For generations, Valencia oranges have been the standard by which other sweet oranges are measured. Known for their exceptional juice quality, rich flavor, and reliable production, Valencia oranges have become one of the most widely grown citrus varieties in the world.

At Chesed Ranch, the Valencia serves a similar role.

While the orchard includes a variety of citrus selections chosen for specific flavors, harvest seasons, or cold tolerance, the Valencia was planted as the orchard’s foundational orange tree—a dependable variety that embodies what most people expect from a great orange.

A Place in Every Orchard

The rebuilding of the orchard following the winter of 2025–2026 offered an opportunity to re-evaluate every tree selection.

Some choices required research and debate.

The Valencia Orange did not.

Its reputation for flavor, productivity, and versatility made it an obvious addition to the new citrus planting. Whether eaten fresh, juiced, or shared with family and friends, Valencia oranges represent the classic Florida citrus experience.

Simply put, it would not feel like a complete orchard without one.

Why We Chose Valencia

The Valencia Orange was selected because it remains one of the finest all-around oranges available to home growers.

Its fruit is excellent for fresh eating and exceptional for juicing. Unlike some early-season oranges, Valencia fruit can often remain on the tree for an extended period while maintaining quality, providing a long harvest window.

As the orchard matures, the Valencia will serve as both a production tree and a benchmark against which other citrus varieties can be evaluated.
